As a step toward achieving Uganda’s Vision 2040, advancing the National E-Mobility Strategy, and contributing to the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce emissions by 24.7% by 2030, the new AfricroozE e-Mobility Hub in Jinja was inaugurated on 7 October. This pilot project, owned and managed by AfricroozE Uganda Limited, was made possible through Asantys Systems’ expertise in solar energy solutions. It marks an important milestone in Uganda’s transition toward a clean, inclusive, and sustainable transport future.




“This hub is more than just a project—it’s a step toward building a clean mobility ecosystem that is owned, operated, and driven by Ugandans,” said David Thuo, CEO of Asantys Systems East Africa Ltd., who represented Asantys Systems at the event. “Through partnerships like this, we are proving that renewable energy and local innovation can go hand in hand to drive long-term impact.”
Reliable solar power for sustainable transport
The solar system was designed and delivered by Asantys Systems GmbH in Germany, while Asantys Systems East Africa Ltd. managed the on-site installation and commissioning. At the core of the hub is a 7.47 kWp solar system with 15.36 kWh of battery storage, providing a reliable, off-grid power supply. This enables continuous operation of the hub, supporting charging of multiple e-bike batteries day and night, as well as powering equipment inside the hub, which functions as a workshop and customer management center.
During installation, our East Africa team ensured the project’s success by resolving unexpected challenges, including replacing three PV panels that were damaged during transport. Thanks to their expertise, the system was delivered on time, fully operational, and ready to support long-term use.

Supporting Uganda’s clean mobility transition
The AfricroozE e-mobility Hub was implemented as part of the Renewable Energy Solutions (RES) Programme, supported by the German Energy Agency (dena) under the German Energy Solutions Initiative.
The initiative demonstrates how collaboration between local innovation and German clean energy expertise can advance Uganda’s e-mobility goals. Designed as a replicable model, the hub integrates off-grid solar power to charge e-bike batteries and supply energy to workshop equipment, contributing to emission reduction targets while improving access to sustainable transport.
Building local capacity and long-term impact
Beyond technical delivery, Asantys Systems trained local technicians to operate and maintain the system, ensuring knowledge transfer and long-term sustainability. This approach underscores Asantys Systems’ overarching commitment to empowering communities through local capacity-building and resilience. It also aligns with Asantys Systems’ PURE (Productive Use of Renewable Energy) Solutions, which integrate renewable energy into productive and commercial applications, from rural electrification and cooperative models to commercial and industrial operations, demonstrating how solar-powered systems can enhance efficiency, stability, and sustainable growth.
The partnership further highlights Asantys Systems’ dedication to delivering reliable, modular, and high-impact solar energy solutions across Africa, spanning applications such as e-mobility, solar water purification, and solar cooling systems.
